A genuine approach

When I started this business in 1985 in La Tieule, on the Sauveterre Causse, the village was empty. It came back to life only during holidays times. Today, I have succeeded; my farm works well and the village is living again. There are now 6 families living in La Tieule and children are playing again in the streets of the village.

I started first by bredding ducks and then I started breeding ostriches.

Ducks

Depending on seasons, ducks are bred in Lozère or in the neighbouring Aveyron. They are all force-fed in the farm. I breed rougly 1200 ducks every year. I only use genuine force-feeding methods with corn grains.

Ostriches

Ostriches are bred free range. This breeding takes a lot of place. Luckily, here, on the Sauveterre Causse, there is a lot of free space. When I started, the ostriches very soon felt at ease in their new environment. I now have two trios (one male and two females). Ostriches lay 15 to 30 eggs every year. All won't give little chickens. Eggs are hatched in brooders during 40 days. I breed 8 to 10 young ostriches every year.
Ostriches mainly eat grass and cereals. Ostrich meat has the double advantage to be low fat and rich in phosphorus. It is also very tender which makes its fame.

I decorate their eggs for the pleasure of my family or for my clients who are always astonished by the size of these eggs. I don't tan nor sell today ostrich skin (that is highly appreciated by leather workers). That is one of the challenges I still have to explore.
