Lauze : in Lozere, lauzes are 1 to 2 inches thick slabs of schist used to make tiles for roof. The lauze used to make this item comes from the Lachamp quarry in Lozere. This lauze is known fot its nice glitering due to iron oxides. Legend : the wind blowing through the slots of this lauze tile located at the top of the roof, imitated wolf 's howls. It was supposed to repel or to attract the wild animal according to the memories of our elders. How to use : this original item can be hung on a wall, it can also be used as a table mat. Comments : this item is hand made by Mr. Sirvins, wood craftsman in Lozere (France). Its shape and color depends on the piece lauze that has been used and of the know-how of Mr. Sirvins.
